Diocesan Mission Catechist

Reporting to: Vicar General
Salary: £27,000 – £32,000 dependant on experience. After satisfactory completion of probationary period 6% employer pension contributions, permanent health insurance and death in service
Based:  Curial Office
Period: Permanent contract
Hours: 35 hours per week, flexible working / occasional evening and weekend duties. May consider two part time posts as a job share.
Annual Leave: 25 days per annum plus public/bank holidays

Purpose:

The Diocese of Shrewsbury is seeking to employ Catechists to assist with the organisation and provision of the formation of those working in all areas of parish and adult catechesis throughout the Diocese. The task will involve seeking the renewal of catechetical formation, training new catechists and supporting parish catechists.

Mission:

The successful candidate must be aware of the present concerns relating to pre-evangelisation, evangelisation and catechesis and the challenges these represent. They will be encouraged to engage in faithful innovation in the spirit of the New Evangelisation as willed by all recent Popes and by the Right Rev Mark Davies, Bishop of Shrewsbury.

They will be fully aware of their responsibilities to the Bishop of the Diocese and the clergy of the diocese for evangelisation and catechesis.

The successful candidate will seek effective and creative ways to communicate the Catholic faith in such a way as to engage both minds and hearts. The successful candidate will be conscious of being at the service of the Church’s own mission to bring others to a deep personal relationship with God in a vibrant Sacramental life and to reach out to those who have lost sight of this.
